Confidence & Esteem

Dear Society,

As a black women in today’s society, I find myself, sometimes more than often, struggling with my self confidence and esteem. At times, this can seem inevitable given societal norms and pressures.

As I task myself with the challange of combatting the two, I note the key difference between one’s confidence and esteem. While one’s confidence pertains to her likelihood of achievement, self-esteem concerns her worth.

All societal contributions play a role in both, however, it is likely to impact one negatively as a minority of a minority group. From beauty standards that are constantly changing to lack of equity, one’s worth and ability to achieve can be undermined in all eyes including her own.
