Dear Society,
Yet again, I am reminded of how much growth is ahead for our society. Here in America, the last few days have been tough for many, but specifically for black women.
Our political arena needs us, but can’t seem to realize it. While we are accustomed to wearing a cape and portraying strength, I encourage a new way forward for us. The insensitive advice to keep pushing is not realistic at this point in time. I encourage us to protect the most disturbed aspect of ourselves.
Our peace.
No one will nurture it nor protect it like we will for ourselves. Yes, there is work to do within society, but at this moment, we are entitled to take a step back, just for a moment, and practice self-care, self-love, self-worship, and self-protection.
One cannot pour from an empty cup.
Right now in our country, our peace has been disturbed and threatened. Take your time and focus on no one other than you while we as a culture regroup.

I’m with columnist and reporter Elizabeth Wellington: “…Put ourselves first. And put away our capes.” I’ve worked hard with people to help them start online businesses with little success. Yet these poor people, who need Medicaid, food stamps and housing vouchers, voted for Trump. I don’t mind debating liberal, conservative or in between politics issues. But the hypocritical reasons these people gave for supporting a convicted felon and rapist was too much for me. I cut them off to protect my sanity. I’m focusing on my grandchildren. I can’t fix stupid or stand it any longer.
