History of Hair

Dear Society,

As Black History Month allows me to learn and express my culture, I find myself intrigued by a topic I’ve been craving to write about – black hair

I express myself frequently and freely through my nonconforming hair. Within the culture of black history, I find it interesting how black hair is recognized for its trendiness rather than its history. The constant change within black hair is nothing more than history in itself. From conforming to hiding to secrets to realization, black hair is always telling a story about us and our current state of mind. Looking back at different times in history, our hair clearly portrays what are intent has been.

So it’s far more than a trend or an updo it’s a true form of expression to society that speaks for an entire culture rather than an individual.
