Justice vs. Accountability

Dear Society,

As I control the variety of emotions brought upon by the recent Chauvin trial, I can’t help but ask – Is this truly justice? I believe we’ve all come to the conclusion that this is more so accountability than anything.

For me, this is a hopeful and wishful start for humanity to become a bit more humane and value a life simply because it is a life.

However, it is difficult to maintain this wishful thinking when I see the same scenario play out multiple times during and immediately after the trial. As I cope with the brutal fact that the next scenario could easily be closer to home, I hang on to the glimpse of hope I felt when accountability was most recently served.
